Friday Five: Cat Gold, Client Relationship Manager at Uprated

Answering the #FridayFive today is Cat Gold, Client Relationship Manager at digital marketing agency Uprated.

Tell us a bit about your job?

My job is very varied. I work at an agency called Uprated based in Bournemouth – the sunny south coast! We are specialists in marketing for the food and drink industry, as well as for ecommerce brands, charities and education. I am spread across our client’s socials, from our beloved Homepride Baking to MSP Capital, a Property Finance Specialist.

No two days are the same. One minute I am looking at pastels, cookies and the next big baking trend on TikTok, the next I am reviewing our next social post for a big development case study on the Isle of Wight. Behind the scenes I develop client strategies, working closely with my brilliant team.

What are the key ingredients for success?

For me, it was going out of my comfort zone, believing in myself and trusting the process. I have to remind myself that we are all learning and, whilst others might look like they have it all together, everyday is a school day.

Could you describe a normal day?

Well I don’t drink coffee, so it starts with a Robinsons Squash…

I like blocking out my Google Calendar to break up my day with different focuses. I make time to stay in the loop on LinkedIn with clients, prospects and brands that I’d love to work with, and keep an eye on what they’re up to. I do a lot of proof reading, writing and reviewing of content, but also create and plan social posts. I really enjoy being a support to my clients. Helping to make their vision a reality is something I do a lot. I also sell and build relationships – the list goes on!

For those trying to break into the industry, could you explain how you got to where you are today?

I actually did an apprenticeship at the age of 18 in Customer Service! I love people and had worked in retail whilst still at school, so knew I was passionate about making people happy and helping them. I was very lucky to do my apprenticeship at a B2B Digital Agency that took a chance on me and gave me opportunity to grow into a Sales Account Management position.

I was with them for 8-and-a-half years before I flew the nest and joined Uprated in 2020. When I was hired as their Client Relationship Manager, I quickly realised my love for social media and working with influencers. It all came with a new set of challenges that I am proud of myself for taking on.

What are you reading, watching and listening to right now?

I am a bit of a magpie when it comes to books: good at buying them, terrible at finishing them. Right now, I’m reading It Ends With Us.

I do enjoy Word on The Street, a podcast run by the brilliant Katie Street. It’s definitely worth a listen.

I try and watch The Apprentice, but it just annoys me. I am a bit behind but I recently finished Killing Eve – a brilliant series. Jodie Comer & Sandra Oh have insane chemistry!
