Benjamin Butterworth is a journalist and broadcaster who has carved out a reputation as a leading voice on the big social questions of our time – from LGBT rights to intergenerational equality.

He has worked as a senior reporter and editor on a national newspaper since 2018, as well as writing for The Guardian, The Washington Post and Gay Times.

He regularly appears on Sky News as a commentator and newspaper reviewer, as well as a liberal pundit on GB News where he has been a regular since its inception in 2021. His high-profile clashes with Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain have racked up tens of millions of views online.

As a reporter for the i newspaper, Benjamin secured a world exclusive when he confronted the Taliban in a late night phone interview as they reclaimed Afghanistan. He has also exposed Iranian terrorism plots on British soil. On the 50th anniversary of the UK’s first pride march, Benjamin secured an extraordinary feat: speaking with every living Prime Minister – from John Major to Boris Johnson – for their reflections on LGBT rights in modern Britain.

He has repeatedly been named as one of the most influential LGBT people in Britain in the Pride Power List, published in The Guardian.

Prior to journalism, he was a leading voice in the Labour Party, elected as the head of its youth wing across the capital and working closely with many of those now shaping Britain’s future in government.

Outside of his broadcast and writing work, Benjamin is an intrepid traveller. He has travelled everywhere from Baghdad to Mosul, toured post-Assad Syria, hiked across Yemen and crossed the Sahara on the ‘world’s most dangerous train’ in Mauritania. He documents these perilous adventures on his Instagram.
