TellTale to launch new podcast series 16 Sunsets from Dr Kevin Fong

Thursday 7th November will see the launch of a new 10-part podcast series 16 Sunsets, written and presented by doctor, broadcaster and host of the multi-award-winning 13 Minutes To The Moon, Dr Kevin Fong, and scored by Grammy and Academy Award®-winner Hans Zimmer and Christian Lundberg.

From TellTale Industries and Antica, in partnership with Acast, 16 Sunsets chronicles the dramatic history of NASA’s Space Shuttle era, as told by the people who built it and flew it.

First taking flight on 12th April 1981, Shuttle was an outrageous creation: the world’s first reusable spacecraft launched like a rocket, going from nought to 17,500 mph in just over eight minutes. It orbited the Earth so fast that the crew would watch 16 sunrises and sunsets every 24 hours. Across the program’s 30 years, space shuttles undertook 135 missions and flew over 500 million miles.

Throughout ten episodes, listeners are guided through a mix of historical narrative, intimate first-hand personal testimony from over 40 NASA veterans, mission audio and expert analysis. It will cover everything from what made the space shuttle one of the most complex systems ever created to the culture-shifting recruitment of a diverse new generation of astronauts. Kevin also delves into the most astonishing – and sometimes fatal – tales from the program’s three decades, including the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger which broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, killing all seven crew members aboard.

Dr Kevin Fong also brings his own perspective: he grew up in the 80s in awe of the space shuttle, then – 20 years later – joined NASA’s Human Adaptation and Countermeasures team in Houston to help work on them. The podcast shines a light on the human stories behind this remarkable machine and the profound impact the space shuttle had on our understanding of human spaceflight and our place in the universe.

16 Sunsets is an independently produced series from the production team behind the multi-award-winning podcast 13 Minutes to the Moon. Exec producers on the series are Jago Lee, Rami Tzabar and Stuart Coxe. Last year, TellTale raised substantial funding and a loyal community of fans through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.
